| backpack of guilt. I love teaching the children about their friend and Savior, Jesus. He claimed them as His child in their baptism (which is celebrated during the month of each child’s baptismal day) and he is never going to stop loving us no matter what mistakes we make in life.
Second, we emphasize the Bible. We learn of Jesus' love in Scripture. Often we’ll act out stories that remind us God made us, continues to help us learn and grow, and always is there to help us in time of trouble. We don’t have to follow rules that human beings have made. The Bible is our source for faith and when we read it we grow in knowing how precious we and every other person are to God.
Finally, we learn that we are saved by faith alone. We trust God and not our ability to “get things right” or be the “best in the class.” I tell the children about FROG people – people who “Fully Rely On God”. When times get rough or when we are afraid or hurt, we can look at FROG people in the Bible and in human history. These people trusted God to get them through difficult times. Their stories inspire us and they become our real Superheroes.
What’s at the bottom of all this teaching? When asked “why” Jesus came to earth He replied, so that His joy might be in us and our “joy may be complete.” (John 15:11) Judging from how often my knees are hugged I believe our children feel happy, warm and secure in that love.
