Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name. Psalm 66, 1-2 |

The Lutheran Church has historically been called “The Singing Church”. This is because Martin Luther added congregational praises to the traditional men or boys chanting choirs. He wrote many hymns himself feeling they could teach the faith in memorable ways. Often he took well-known folk tunes and wrote religious words to the familiar melodies. At St. Paul’s music has always been an important part of our worship life. We have a valuable and rare Tracker Action organ that supports lively and powerful singing of great hymns of the past and contemporary Christian music. We also have five choirs. |
CHANCEL CHOIR: This adult group is a backbone to our worship composed of men and women who love their Lord and proclaim that love in music. However, it’s also a “family” within the St. Paul’s family. In prayers, devotions and wonderful times of laughter they are a caring community dedicated to praising God with the gifts the Lord has given them. They rehearse on Thursday nights from 8 – 9:15 and sing in the 10am Sunday worship service.

ANIMATO BELL CHOIR: Directed by Alyssa Toth, the bell choir’s membership includes teenage youth as well as veteran “ding-a-lingers.” We have a glorious set Schleiermacher bells. The group rehearses on Thursdays, from 7 – 8pm and plays approximately once a month in the 10 o’clock service. |
TEEN CHOIR is a lively group of youth who are confirmation age and older. They rehearse on Sundays from 11:20 – 12:15. If you like guitars and trumpets and a bit of fancy stepping with your music this is the group. They sing monthly at 10am and on special occasions. They periodically join the Chancel Choir to really “raise the roof” praising God. Marian Bienwald leads this “rocking” choir. |
CHILDREN’S CHOIR: Jan Sharlun gets their knees hugged and their hearts warmed each Sunday at 11:30 after Sunday School. The singers range from age 3 to 5th grade. Really the only qualification is that they be potty trained and have a parent attend the rehearsal if they are young. The children melt the hearts of parishioners once a month as they shout their praises to the Lord. A key “philosophy” behind Children’s Choir is to simply help the children love music and gain a sense of self-confidence singing before others. |
YOUTH BRASS CHOIR: On special occasion trumpets and horns join in the accompaniment of choir and congregational singing. Direted Christopher Fusco and led by Christopher Woodall, these young people use the talents that have been nurtured in our schools and in private lessons and inspire us all in giving glory to God. |
